An Introduction to the Western Circuit: Bill Mousley QC, Leader
I joined the Western Circuit in Winchester in 1988, and throughout my professional life the Circuit has provided support, representation, continuing education and friendship. I am very proud to have taken up the post of Leader and will do my very best to uphold and maintain all those qualities. I am very fortunate to have valuable support from our appointed and employed officers, as well as practitioners all over the Circuit.
The last few years have witnessed great challenges for many, notably at the publicly-funded bar and I am determined to continue the very considerable efforts of previous Leaders to safeguard the interests of Circuit members as well as promoting the excellence of the bar.
My intention as Leader will be to engage at all levels and, indeed, to try to help to shape the agenda for any future change in the best interests of Members. The Western Circuit is rightly proud of its growing membership particularly amongst younger members of the bar and in more diverse practice areas. We are justifiably proud of our high-quality education programme for Pupils, new and established practitioners and the important social traditions, whether Grand Nights, Messes or Circuit Cricket.
New members can be assured of a warm welcome and should soon feel a sense of belonging wherever they may be on Circuit.
I look forward to working with and meeting as many of you as possible during my term as Leader.
Bill Mousley QC
